How to Run Your Own Field Report
Read a bag as a sequence of claims, from envelope to eventual repair.

The five reports above use the same procedure. It does not depend on owning limited editions.
1. Freeze the envelope. Record height, width, depth, stated volume, main-body volume, and load recommendation. Note whether the dimensions describe a packed maximum or an empty shell.
2. Map the liters. Give every named pocket a location and, where published, a capacity. Mark the spaces that compete with each other. A pocket map predicts daily behavior better than a product photograph.
3. Trace retrieval paths. Draw the movement required to reach the laptop, keys, passport, bottle, and rain layer, including what must be opened, moved, or exposed. Access is geometry over time.
4. Measure against your largest object, not your average one. The Supernote defined a sling; the laptop defined a backpack. Capacity is set by the worst case that must fit.
5. Expand every fabric name into a stack. Face fiber, weave, denier, reinforcement, film or coating, backing, finish. A trademark names a family, not a behavior.
6. Separate the swatch from the system. A hydrostatic figure belongs to fabric under a test. Seams, zippers, and openings decide what the bag does in rain.
7. Predict failure by mechanism. Coatings wear and hydrolyze, laminates separate, leather dries, zippers cycle, thread abrades, foam takes a compression set. The bag retires at the interaction of those clocks, not at its best single statistic.
8. Read features as verbs. Pass through luggage. Hide a passport. Attach a pouch. Each verb implies a week. If the implied week is not yours, the feature is not value.
9. Find the repair path before the failure. Warranty length matters less than exclusions, transferability, parts availability, and whether the maker takes paid repairs.
10. Place the bag in the system. A bag bought for one-pack optionality is judged differently from a specialized node in a stable rotation. Ask which existing role it takes over, and be suspicious when the answer is none.
Two failure modes are worth naming because both produce confident, useless writing. The first is ownership flex, where scarcity and acquisition story crowd out the evidence. The second is spec worship, where a test number wins an argument that the bag’s geometry already lost. The object is evidence. Your week is the test.
