No 0426 twin for these views. ULA's build notes list the front compartment as accessible from both left and right sides, so these two zips are entries to the same space rather than to a left and a right pocket.

Front panels — where the same 2 liters go

Drawn from ULA's published pocket list and the owner's packs, not maker drawings. Both panels carry the same 122 cu in, which is why the shaded block occupies the same width on both depth bars. The 0426 stacks it in three layers behind three zips; the 0826 puts it in one layer behind two zips, plus a separate pocket on the lid. Where the sources disagree the pack wins: ULA's copy puts a three-section mesh organizer inside the 0826's top QAP and two organizer pockets in its front compartment, but the QAP is undivided and the three-section organizer is the one in the front, on the face you meet from the right zip.

Schematic front view of the Cicada 0426 above a depth cross-section. A full-length zipper on the right edge opens a 1 litre compartment; two shorter zippers stacked on the left edge each open a half-litre section. The cross-section shows the half-litre pair sitting between the 1 litre compartment and the main body. There is no top pocket on this build. 1 2 3 4 5

A vertical zipper at each side edge opens the same single compartment, which holds a three-section stretch-mesh organizer on the right-hand side. A shallow undivided top quick-access pocket sits above. The cross-section shows one front layer in front of the main body. 1 2 3 4 5 6

A connected compartment does not add liters to the pack. It changes what the front volume can hold: on the 0826 one wide item can span the whole panel instead of being forced into a half, and either hand reaches the same contents. The trade is that nothing stays sorted by geometry. The mesh does that work, and only on the right-hand face, where the 0426 has fixed pockets doing it before anything is packed.

The 0426 stacks where the 0826 spreads. Its three pockets sit in layers rather than across the panel: the 1 L compartment is outermost, the two 0.5 L sections sit behind it, and the main body is behind those. Reaching into the 1 L compartment and reaching into a 0.5 L section put your hand at different depths in the same 5 inches of pack. That is owner-recorded. ULA publishes the volumes but no arrangement, and its dimension line for this panel (14.5″ × 7.5″ for the large pocket, 6.5″ × 7.5″ for each small one) is reprinted verbatim on the 0826, whose front is a single 2 L layer, so it describes neither pack. The photographs cannot settle it either: the 0426 is navy on navy with black zippers.

Where the pocket numbers come from. Both packs publish 1,342 cu in total and 1,220 cu in of main body, leaving 122 cu in — almost exactly 2 L — for everything outside the main compartment. Both breakdowns then divide that remainder into equal parts: the 0426 spends it as 61 + 30.5 + 30.5, the 0826 as 61 + 61. A shallow top lid pocket and a full-height front compartment are not the same size, so the identical 61 cu in on the 0826 is a bookkeeping split rather than a measurement. The compartment's own published dimensions, 14.5″ × 7.5″ × 0–1.5″, come to anywhere from 1.3 L to 2.7 L depending on how you treat the taper, and 61 cu in would need a mean depth of only 0.56″. That is why an owner-measured 1.75 L compartment and a 0.25 L QAP fit the same 2 L budget without disturbing the 22 L headline.
